Inherent non-linear damping in resonators with inertia amplification

نویسندگان

چکیده

Inertia amplification is a mechanism coupling degrees of freedom within vibrating structure. Its goal to achieve an apparent high dynamic mass and, accordingly, low resonance frequency. Such structures have been described for use in locally resonant metamaterials and phononic crystals lower the starting frequency band gap without adding system. This study shows that any non-linear kinematic between translational or rotational vibrations leads appearance amplitude-dependent damping. The analytical derivation equation motion resonator with inertia creates insight damping process, vibration increases its amplitude. theoretical validated by experimental evidence from two types inertia-amplification resonators. Finally, importance illustrated when structure used as tuned damper cantilever beam.

Damping of nanomechanical resonators.

We study the transverse oscillatory modes of nanomechanical silicon nitride strings under high tensile stress as a function of geometry and mode index m≤9. Reproducing all observed resonance frequencies with classical elastic theory we extract the relevant elastic constants. Based on the oscillatory local strain we successfully predict the observed mode-dependent damping with a single frequency...

Non-structural controllability of linear elastic systems with structural damping

This paper proves that any initial condition in the energy space for the plate equation with square root damping ζ̈ − ρ∆ζ̇ +∆2ζ = u on a smooth bounded domain, with hinged boundary conditions ζ = ∆ζ = 0, can be steered to zero by a square integrable input function u supported in arbitrarily small time interval [0, T ] and subdomain. As T tends to zero, for initial states with unit energy norm, th...

non-linear study of various slit shear walls in steel structures

seismic retrofit strategies have been developed in the past few decades following the introduction of new seismic provisions and the availability of advanced materials and methods. it can be observed that new approaches to deal with more lateral forces are more innovative and more energy absorbent. in line with this, there is a growing trend toward the use of steel shear walls as a system with ...

a new type-ii fuzzy logic based controller for non-linear dynamical systems with application to 3-psp parallel robot

abstract type-ii fuzzy logic has shown its superiority over traditional fuzzy logic when dealing with uncertainty. type-ii fuzzy logic controllers are however newer and more promising approaches that have been recently applied to various fields due to their significant contribution especially when the noise (as an important instance of uncertainty) emerges. during the design of type- i fuz...

Damping and Frequency Shift in Microscale Modified Couple Stress Thermoelastic Plate Resonators

In this paper, the vibrations of thin plate in modified couple stress thermoelastic medium by using Kirchhoff- Love plate theory has been investigated. The governing equations of motion and heat conduction equation for Lord Shulman (L-S) [1] theory are written with the help of Kirchhoff- Love plate theory. The thermoelastic damping of micro-beam resonators is analyzed by using the normal mode a...
